PREAMBLE - Dr. Tarachand Meghjani (Director-NMCAM- Raipur)

The term Alternative medicine means any form of medicine that is outside the main stream of western medicine as practiced by the majority of doctors today. Alternative medicine exists in all cultures to some degree and terms such as traditional medicine, indigenous medicines date back hundred of even thousand years depending on country and culture concerned, because two third of the worlds population (mainly in the develop ing countries) relies entirely on such traditional medical therapies, the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION has declared its intention actively to encourage traditional medicine world wide in order that even where western medical care is available , the majority of the people in third world choose to remain loyal to its indigenous medical system, the WHO has pledged itself to foster a realistic approach to traditional medicine in the lights of modern medicine science in order to discourage harmful practices and encourage useful ones , and to promote the integration of proven valuable knowledge and skills in the traditional and western medicine . And claims one WHO report "for far too long traditional system of medicine & modern medicine have gone their separate ways in mutual antipathy yet are not their goals identical to improve the health of mankind and thereby the quality of life? Only the bickered mind would assure that each has nothing to learn from the other.

ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

The Alma -Ata declaration - “Health for all by 2000 A.D.” through Primary health Care. This is pursuance of aims declared of the WHO / UNICEF sponsored conference at Alma -Ata U.S.S.R primary health care has been described as “Essential Health” care based on Practical scientifically sound and socially accepted methods and Families in the community and a country through their full participation and at a cost that a community and a country can afford to maintain at every stage of their development in the spirit of self determination, subsequently. The Alma -Ata declaration outlined that the primary health care is based on the training & scientific orientation provided to health care workers including physician, Nurses, Midwives, auxiliary and community workers & traditional medical practitioners, therefore Medicina alternative has established guide-lines and regulation outlining the code of ethics that healers are expected to follow consequent to their training certification & membership of MEDICINA - ALETRNATIVE.
